Part I - Building the plug (...cont)

10/02/04
I Reworked the rear profiles. The bottom piece with the circle will be the last one but I haven't cut it yet.

I added 2" foam between the 3/4" pieces and foamed them in place. I also added a few more on top to make sure I would have plenty to work with. I didn't have my camera today so I took these with my camera phone.

After getting the rough shape with the grinder I used an orbital sander to smooth it out a little bit. It's not finished at this point, especially around the exhaust. I added a horizontal piece to the roof intake. The intake is a little too wide but that's fairly easy to fix at this point. I also fixed the area on the front intake that came loose.

10/11/04
I started laying out the roof intake/scoop (whatever it's called.) The rear will be sanded flush with the new side pieces. Once I remove the screws, I'll round everything over to get the right shape. Everything is eventually going to be covered with body filler anyway but I want to have as accurate of a base/armature as I can.

Today I started by removing the extra material from the side of the roof to blend it in with the scoop. Next, I covered the right, rear, outside fender and glued and screwed it in place. Once that dried I removed the screws and went ahead and did a little shaping, I just couldn't wait anymore. I rounded out the fender and began to shape the top edge of the right fin. I used masking tape as a guid to where I want the edge to be. I also added the left outside fender piece and the intake panels on the fronts of the rear fenders. I cut the fender piece for the left side by tracing the one I used for the right side to help keep it symetrical. The left side was a little wider so I used clamps to pull it together. I added a strip of foam to the inside of the right fender, althoug this area will have to be built up more to blend in with the fin. The "trunk" still needs more shaping, but I did work on it a little more on the right side. Over all it was a pretty productive day.
