Hi all.
Ok so while I still need to do a few sessions of putty and sanding on the afterburner to get the shape nice and correct.
I do thin layers of putty and sand down to a rough shape and build up where needed... and repeat the process... Quite boring and time consuming, but needs to be done...
So while I was waiting for the putty to dry and settle on another layer, I thought I would get started with the Wings / Air Flaps...
Finished putting all the prints together...
Then cut them out and glued them to a 6mm board so that I can cut them out as a template while I wait for the thicker board to arrive...
I had a few smaller pieces of off-cut board so thought I might as well use those for now...

Man. So much work. That is some dedication. Which I didn’t realize or appreciate seeing just finished build pics in the past.
If it were me I’d look at those stacks of printouts and go “nope, will do it tomorrow and postpone forever”.

Hey Big Bozo.
LOL, Yeah I hear you... When I first started separating the printouts I thought it was going to be a lot of work, but once you actually start trimming them and put them together it takes a lot of time, and I even got a few small blisters on my fingers form the scissors and all the cutting... Hence why I only do little at a time otherwise I would have lost myself under paperwork...
But then again using the A4 sheets of paper was not the best idea, and if one had these printed out on large format printers it would be less than a 1/4 of the work.. But now we know, dont do it my way, get large prints done...

Hi all.
So been a busy day...
Decided to get new putty, different color as it was getting difficult to see where I have been working and still need to work...
So this should be close to the final layer except for some minor shaping on the rounded sections...
And tomorrow, More sanding... And more sanding... And more sanding...
But then hopefully soon after that I can finish the back section and the bottom gap then lay it down in primer... Then I will call it done for the interim...

Ok so Im calling it a day for today...
Did plenty of sanding and the afterburner is basically in the final stages now before primer...
Still have a few small odd spots and sections to do touch ups on as well as the edges to be rounded slightly... But next weekend...
Started with 100 grit paper, then went to 220 grit...
Tried to get a nice clear shot of the side being nice and smooth but best I could do now...
Before I do primer, I will do one more run over with 400 grit paper...
The possibly do 2 or 3 coats of primer then I will run over it with 800 grit and move upward from there...

Thanks Big Bozo. Yeah its a tedious process with all the sanding...
But the more it takes shape and gets closer to the finished product, I think "WOW, Look what built..."
And then Im amped again for the next piece...

Re: ** WAR's Black Tank **
Looks really good. I would be tempted to cover it with a layer of fiberglass for strength.

Hey Slysnake
This unit is actually very strong at the momonet...
Remembering I did 2 layers of fiberglass inside to hold the shape and I did 2 layers outside...
And thats also after I did 2 layers of resin before the fiberglass matting...
Inside:
Outside
Although the only section I was thinking of adding another layer of fiberglass to was the top back section... As its got the opening at the back and the top slit section, I think I might add one extra layer there just to put my mind at ease...
But as for the rest of the unit, Im happy...
